In September 2015 Hennie lead a session for twenty-five employees around the theme of ‘Emotional Intelligence’. It is a term often coined in management forums, but the practical implementation lacked. Through this session it was learned how important it is to be aware of one’s emotions, but most importantly, how to respond in an intelligent manner.

An introduction to the concept was given, which was concise and powerful, leaving no doubt as to what would be dealt with on this day. Clear examples were given to illustrate what emotional intelligence would look like in the workplace. The biggest part was devoted to group work and completing certain ‘challenges’, uncannily allowing us to put into practice what we were taught moments earlier.

There were small group and large group challenges, where the different group dynamics gave the opportunity to test newly acquired awareness and skills. The theme was very apt and relevant to our working environment as we deal with colleagues inside the centre and outside the centre, as well as external clients 100% of the time. It is invaluable to be empowered by knowing one can respond in a constructive way, which helps with having compassion and understanding both internal and external clients’ needs.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and Hennie provided good structure and leading of the group. What a sight to see such a large group of professionals playing games!

I would recommend Hennie and his team for any corporate leadership event, both big and small.

Netball at the University of the Free State includes a group of dynamic and very talented women, who practice very hard to excel to the highest level in their sport. We are fortunate to work with an unbelievable group of young women. However, the sport has become extremely competitive and requires so much from every player that we need more than just the ordinary.

That is why we have called in the services of Hennie van der Westhuizen to help us face our challenging realities. The players thoroughly enjoyed this remarkable teambuilding experience and could apply it to their game and their everyday personal lives altogether.

I would recommend this experience to any individual or group - in sport or not.
